Ironically, the common thing and the difference between building a new home for the newly married couple to a bachelor or a bachelorette is the furniture.

You walk into a stranger’s house and you can instantly tell if the one living there are single or a family just by looking at their furniture. Some people may not be aware of it until someone pointed it out. This is because usually furniture is the least thing that people give a thought of and this is evident on homes that doesn’t have a cohesive interior theme. The tendency is to get just what furniture they needed at a certain time of their life.

Some people doesn’t have the luxury to buy modern furniture because let’s face it, modern furniture is expensive. You can go to a furniture shop in Singapore and you will leave empty handed. And this has been a main concern for those who is starting to build a new home, the reason why buying furniture is not the main priority and it is something that some people buy one piece at a time.

Buying furniture can be tricky. Some say you shouldn’t buy the too expensive furniture because it is impractical. Some says you should buy the classic pieces because it could be an investment. There are no wrong choices but it always comes down to what you need and what do you prefer.  

You can build a home without shedding too much money on furniture with these basic tips:

·         You should just allot specific budget when buying furniture to avoid going overboard on spending money, especially for the newly weds.

·         Start with the basic furniture. The common basic furniture is sofa, coffee table or center table, dining table, bed, closets and cabinets. With this basic furniture you can build the interior design of your house.

·         Know what theme you want on your home. If you have a theme you will only buy furniture that will suit the interior that you are planning to achieve. This will lessen the chance of you buying unnecessary pieces that doesn’t match your theme.

·         Consider the space you are going to need for your stuff. Space is important. You may not want your place to be too cramped because you bought an over-sized sofa.

·         Select hardwood or wood material.

·         For the newly-weds whose planning to have kids in a couple of months after their wedding it is practical to buy kids furniture at a much later time. Maybe when your kid is about five to six months old.

·         If in doubt hire an interior decorator. Getting a help of a professional is much more practical than spending money on furniture that you’ll later realized you don’t need on your home.

For those who are on a tight schedule and don’t have the time to visit an actual furniture shop, there are now online furniture shops and they can deliver it to you right at your doorstep. But there is a joy on buying furniture on an actual furniture shop. It could be a fun activity, for some it is therapeutic.
